1. Is Hifenac-P a painkiller?
Yes. Hifenac-P’s formulation of aceclofenac and paracetamol makes it a pain-killing analgesic. It is used in adults over 18 years to treat acute pain. It targets the formation of inflammatory mediators, putting an end to pain and swelling. It acts by blocking certain enzymes that lead to inflammation and pain.
2. Are Zendol- P and Hifenac the same?
Zerodol-P is an NSAID like Hifenac-P. Zerodol-P is used for combating fever and pain, but the concentration of paracetamol in this combination medicine is lower than what Hifenac-P contains. Otherwise, it acts similarly, i.e., by blocking the production of pain-triggering enzymes to provide relief from inflammation and pain.
3. Can Hifenac cause thrombosis?
Hifenac is an NSAID that also reduces the clotting of blood. This action is helpful to banish nagging pains like toothaches, earaches, and stabbing pains associated with osteoarthritis. Thus, this medicine is not associated with a higher risk of thrombosis. This is a condition that occurs when blood clots block arteries or veins.
4. Can we take Hifenac after drinking alcohol?
The answer is ‘NO’. Never consume alcohol when on Hifenac tablets, as this combination may lead to extreme and excessive drowsiness. Another thing to consider is that Hifenac and alcohol, together, increase the risk of liver damage. Remember to not drive after taking this medicine as it may affect your vision.
5. Can I take Hifenac during pregnancy?
No. Hifenac is contraindicated for pregnant women. This is because dedicated studies in animals have shown that the drug can cause harm to the fetus. Consult your doctor before taking this drug. They will weigh in and consider all available options before prescribing this medicine if you are in too much pain.
6. Is Hifenac a muscle relaxant?
Hifenac is not a muscle relaxant by itself. It can be combined with chlorzoxazone for this purpose. Hifenac’s two pain-killing components – aceclofenac and paracetamol – relieve pain. Chlorzoxazone is a muscle relaxant that works on the relevant centers in the brain and spinal cord to relieve spasms and muscle stiffness, to boost muscle mobility and motility.
7. How long does it take for Hifenac to work?
Hifenac usually shows results, i.e., a reduction in pain and swelling in just 10–30 minutes. However, it usually takes about 24 hours for this medicine to show significant improvement in the symptoms of muscle pain and stiffness. Be patient, and avoid exceeding the dosage. Overdose of Hifenac can be dangerous.
8. Does Hifenac cause acidity?
Yes. Never take Hifenac to cure stomach pain, as it can increase the secretion of stomach acids which has the potential to aggravate acidity. This especially happens if you take Hifenac on an empty stomach. The medicine must be taken only when prescribed by a doctor and after having a meal, milk, or antacids to prevent nausea.
9. Is Hifenac anti-inflammatory?
Yes. Hifenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by blocking the effect of cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzymes in the brain to reduce pain. These enzymes form certain chemical substances at the site of an injury which lead to inflammation, swelling, redness, and pain. Hifenac thus has excellent anti-inflammatory properties.
